Gary Neville says Manchester United will have to reflect onconsideration on taking part in a returned three if they choose to hold selecting Lisandro Martinez.

Argentina defender Martinez arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in the summer time for a charge that should ultimately attain £55million, with Erik ten Hag having labored with the 24-year-old in the Dutch capital.

At 5ft 9ins the seven-times capped global is believed to be the shortest centre-back throughout the pinnacle divisions in Europe, and Neville says that lack of physicality ability he can also no longer be ideal to taking part in a central shielding pairing in English football.

Martinez started out alongside Harry Maguire in Saturday’s day trip to Brentford, however the pair seemed all at sea as the Bees romped to a 4-0 victory to make Ten Hag’s begin to lifestyles as Manchester United boss the worst in one hundred and one years, with John Chapman the final United supervisor to lose his first two fits in cost returned in 1921.

Neville, who spent his lengthy United profession taking part in as a right-back and centre-back, feels that Ten Hag may not be in a position to maintain choosing Martinez except he has greater assist at the back.

“Maybe on the left in a again three – that may want to doubtlessly work,” Neville advised Sky Sports when assessing Martinez’s show and discussing the place he should play.

“Maybe taking part in in midfield, due to the fact we understand he can do that. I assume he’s received tenacity and, to be fair, I wouldn’t choose him at all at this second in time.

“But to say he should play in a again 4 away at Brentford in opposition to [Ivan] Toney and [Bryan] Mbeumo – he bodily can’t compete with them.

“I couldn’t when I was once enjoying as a centre-back when I was once younger, and I thinking I used to be a respectable centre-back who knew my function and knew the game. But I couldn’t do it due to the fact Gary Pallister had to maintain coming over to swap with me.

“When I noticed him [Martinez] swapping with Maguire in the first 1/2 at the lengthy throws, it reminded me of Pally who used to swap with me.

“If you’re having to swap positions at centre-back to compensate for the different one it’s simply now not outstanding and that’s what constantly happened. They did goal him in that first half.”

Ten Hag – who cancelled a deliberate day off for the United gamers on Sunday – subsequently changed Martinez with Raphael Varane at half-time, with the Argentinean one of three gamers he changed at the damage alongside with Luke Shaw and Fred.,56142393.html

Neville: Man Utd played like U9s | 'Transfer strategy difficult to forgive'
Manchester United thrashed 4-0 at Brentford in Erik ten Hag’s first away game; 13-time Premier League champions have now lost seven successive away games; “I’ve been watching United for 42 years and I can’t think of a moment where I’ve felt it was as bad,” Gary Neville tells Sky Sports

Gary Neville has described Manchester United’s performance in their shambolic 4-0 defeat at Brentford as like watching “men against U9s”.

Neville also described the club’s delay in strengthening Erik ten Hag’s squad as “difficult to forgive”.

The 13-time Premier League champions were humbled by the Bees as they recorded their seventh successive away defeat – a result that leaves new boss Erik Ten Hag with zero points, one goal scored and six goals conceded from his first two matches in charge.

United found themselves 4-0 down after less than 40 minutes, leaving Neville to tell Sky Sports: “I’m trying to think of one thing Manchester United have done well in the first half and I can’t think of one.

“I’ve been watching United for 42 years and I can’t think of a moment where I’ve felt it was as bad as it was in that first half.”

United were unable to launch any kind of a fightback in the second half in west London, after which Neville told the club’s fans: “If you thought it couldn’t get any lower, it just has.”

Richard Arnold, United’s chief executive, was in attendance at the Gtech Community Stadium, where some away fans displayed banners calling for the Glazer family to sell the club.

Neville accused the Americans of presiding over an “embedded rot” at Old Trafford, while he also took aim at United’s transfer business this summer.

Christian Eriksen was signed on a free transfer after he left Brentford, while Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia arrived from the Eredivisie, but United lost seven players this summer who were part of last season’s first-team squad.

Neville said: “Manchester United have known for eight to ten months they’ve needed to rebuild the squad for the summer. Ralf Rangnick [last season’s interim manager] described it as open heart surgery.

“To not get the players in early – the quality of players, the number of players – that Ten Hag needed is baffling and difficult to forgive.

“It’s not a stalled market – teams have got their business done. Every club seems to have a plan and Manchester United’s seems to be, ‘let’s just look at the Dutch league or players that have worked under Ten Hag’.

“That is not a strategy – you can’t do that. That was 15 years ago. You’ve got to have players identified and the work’s been done with the agents.

“Yes, of course, you always try to please the manager if he has got a player he’s got really good contacts with. But the one he has got good contacts with, they can’t get in – Frenkie de Jong.

“It’s a real achievement to spend a billion pounds and be this bad. It doesn’t take much to dismantle this Manchester United team. It just takes a bit of organisation, a bit of fight, and you’re there. If you just rough them up a little bit and get a goal, they’re flaky like you wouldn’t believe.”

Neville added: “We can make a judgment on the players, but Eriksen is new, Martinez is new and he found it difficult. Those other players – we’ve been telling their story for the past 12 months. I feel like we’re continually saying the same thing about the same people.

“United in the past have always answered the fans’ anger through money and spending in the transfer market. The problem is that now, no one wants to take their money. That’s a massive issue. They can’t spend the money.

“If you’re a player watching that performance in the first half, what are you thinking about coming to this club?

“It’s a great football club, it’s a magic football club, it’s been the biggest thing in my life and I couldn’t be more proud to support the club but at this moment in time, it’s really desperate.”

Asked about the anti-Glazer protests in the away end, Neville said: “The only decent thing about United is the fans and they’ve had enough.”

The statistics following Man Utd’s mauling at Brentford showed how much harder the winning side worked than their more illustrious opponents, with Thomas Frank’s team recording more sprints and pressures in the final third, as well as more overall distance covered.

In response, Neville said: “These players have proved across three different managers now that they don’t work as hard as the teams they’re playing against.

“How long have we been saying in football that hard work will beat talent when talent doesn’t work hard?

“That United team don’t run hard enough, they don’t run fast enough but they are absolutely drained of all confidence. They’re struggling badly and they have been for 12 months. They’ve not been helped and some will say they don’t deserve help – they need to help themselves.

“I get that but I’ve been in struggling teams before. I’ve been in teams that have been suffering and they need something. That’s got to come from above.

“But today was a new low. It seems continually that Manchester United can surpass their previous lows. When is the lowest low going to come?

“The reality of it is this is really, really bad.”

United are now without an away win in any competition since February and Neville said: “If you want to look for tell-tale signs that a team lacks personality and character, it’s away performances, how you deal with set pieces, it’s your running stats – Manchester United are miserable in all those areas.”

Neville tells fans: Don’t cross line with criticism
But while Neville was damning in his criticism of his former club, he urged United fans not to cross the line into abuse ahead of the side’s Premier League game away to Liverpool on Monday August 22, live on Sky Sports.

“You know the impact [these results] have when you play for Manchester United,” explained Neville. “I’ve spoken passionately about the club but there is a line.

“I know there are fans who have turned up at people’s houses or at the training ground and tried to break in. That cannot happen. Let’s be really clear – there has to be a line here.

“It’s going to be toxic in these next five, six or seven days before the Liverpool game but you cannot turn up at people’s houses, you cannot abuse people’s families. That should never happen and every Manchester United fan should know that line should never be crossed.

“Peaceful protest and demonstrating in the right way is something that should be done. We have to make sure it’s retained inside the stadium and make sure it’s done in the right way.”

While Neville focused his criticism on the Glazers and players, Jamie Redknapp questioned a number of Ten Hag’s decisions ahead of his side’s visit to Brentford.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “Somebody’s got to take responsibility. I cannot believe what I’m watching from this Man Utd team. It’s like a team that have got the Man Utd badge on that were just thrown out there. They don’t look like they’re showing any responsibility or any care.

“I think the manager’s making mistakes. Eriksen is not a defensive-midfield player and he’s playing him in that role today.

“Martinez is not strong enough as a central defender – he’s getting bullied. It just sums up Manchester United and those are two decisions the manager’s made.

“They didn’t show enough guts, enough character. I can’t imagine what the fans at home and the fans who have paid all that money to come here today must be thinking.”

With so many Pittsburgh Champs and Failures From Steelers versus Seahawks

Champs and Failures From Steelers versus Seahawks

With so many Pittsburgh Steelers starters sidelined, saves presented their defense for a program spot as the principal round of cuts draws near.

The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their most memorable live game activity when they facilitated the Seattle Seahawks for the 2022 preseason opener at Acrisure Arena.

With so many Steelers starters sidelined, the stores had the option to present their defense for a program spot as the main round of instructional course cuts looms on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Here’s who stuck out – for good reasons and terrible – during their somewhat late triumph over the Seahawks.

Kenny Pickett – Generally the final part of a preseason game yields minimal worth observing yet that was not the situation on in the opener. The most intense applauses came when Pickett took the field interestingly and the cheers possibly developed stronger when he finished every one of the five passes on his most memorable drive, which finished in a score pass to Conner Heyward.

Pickett completed the night 13-15 for 95 yards and two scores, the second accompanied three seconds left in a tie ball game. His execution in the two-minute drill drove the Steelers to triumph.

Heavy weapons specialist Olszewski – Olszewski is on a rebranding mission. He was an All-Ace returner for the New Britain Nationalists yet little else. He needs to be a genuine recipient and was a decent one on Saturday with the vast majority of the Steelers’ assumed starters in road garments. Olszewski was forced to bear this season’s most memorable score in the primary quarter and that was subsequent to assisting set up the score with a 25-yard catch and run the play previously. Mitch Trubisky said he’s “tricky”, consistently open and “quarterback-accommodating” after the game.,56129839.html

Jaylen Warren – Warren has been the sweetheart of instructional course up to this point. The undrafted newbie from Oklahoma State ran with power and spryness to the tune of 5.7 yards per convey and streaked flexibility in the passing game with four gets for 30 yards and a score.

He’s legitimate the temporary fad that has quickly gotten steam over the recent weeks. Lead trainer Mike Tomlin was not content with his second from last quarter bungle, however commended Warren’s contact equilibrium and capacity to break handles. On the off chance that he can straighten out his ball security, there’s a sizable amount of room on the list for him.

Anthony McFarland – without a trace of Najee Harris and Benny Snell on Saturday night, there was more than adequate space for Steelers reinforcements to flaunt and Anthony McFarland did exactly that. As the beginning running back, he showed his irrefutable speed and some seldom seen strength as well. McFarland acquired 56 yards on seven conveys and put forth serious areas of strength for a that he ought to be the third-string back or better.

Hostile line – Mitch Trubisky looked great, tossing for 63 yards and a score in restricted activity yet it was regardless of the pass-hindering execution of his hostile line. They hindered well in the run game however each of the three groups buckled under the Seahawks’ pass rush that had Trubisky, Rudolph and Pickett scrambling frequently.

Bricklayer Rudolph – A promising beginning immediately soured for Rudolph. He opened his night with a perfect score pass to George Pickens – 26 yards dropped into the back corner of the endzone.

Then, at that point, his play crumbled as the second-teamers turned in. Rudolph was almost taken out two times inside the red zone during a similar drive and on the following one, he had a pass batted down at the line while working a somewhere down in his own area. His detail line – 9-15 for 93 yards and a score – doesn’t recount the entire story. He was the most awful of the three quarterbacks to play.

Arthur Maulet – Maulet was around the ball the entire night – piling up five handles, two for a misfortune – yet at one point, when the ball continues finding you it’s something terrible. He covered ineffectively and was focused on frequently in light of the fact that the Seahawks realized they could take advantage of him.

Donavan Stiner – Over and over, Stiner’s endeavors at a tackle finished with void arms and Seattle scores. On the principal play of the last part, a whiff on Bo Melton prompted a 39-yard gain and a possible score. In the final quarter, one more missed tackle permitted Dareke Youthful to slide into the endzone for a game-tying score.

Indonesian National Team Only Against Curacao in FIFA Matchday September 2022

The Indonesian Football FEDERATION (PSSI) through the Secretary General (Secretary General), Yunus Nusi, said that the Indonesian national team would only fight Curacao on the FIFA Matchday September 2022. This was stated directly by Yunus Nusi, when contacted by MNC Portal Indonesia.

Furthermore, Yunus Nusi ensured that the Indonesian national team would compete twice against Curacao. With Yunus Nusi’s statement, the Indonesian national team practically canceled its intention to face the other two teams, which had been planned beforehand.

Just to note, previously PSSI projected three countries to become opponents of the Indonesian national team. The three countries are Curacao, Hong Kong and India.

The PSSI General Chairman (Ketum) also had time to say that his party was still in the bargaining stage with India and Hong Kong. However, India then decided to undergo a FIFA Matchday September 2022 match against Vietnam and Singapore.

The news about Hong Kong, which will be the opponent of the Indonesian national team, is not clear. That means, the opponents of the Indonesian national team will only have to focus on one country, namely Curacao.

To note again, Curacao is a country that is part of the Confederation of Central and North America, namely CONCACAF. Curacao is ranked 84th in FIFA.

Rugby Championship: Are New Zealand in turmoil after three straight defeats

Sunday rugby news as coach admits fans think he's 'crazy' for quitting Wales for Scarlets and All Blacks hit 'unimaginable' low - Wales Online

The All Blacks are aiming to avoid another loss when they face South Africa again in Round 2 of the 2022 Rugby Championship this weekend; watch New Zealand vs South Africa (4.05pm kick-off) and Argentina vs Australia (8.10pm) live on Sky Sports Action on Saturday

It says much that, for only the fourth time in the history of New Zealand sports, the bookies had the All Blacks as underdogs for their opening match of this year’s Rugby Championship against South Africa.

If that was a rarity, then what transpired in this year’s Rugby Championship opener in Mbombela last Saturday was near-on unprecedented as the visitors slid to a 26-10 defeat which marked their third Test loss in a row – the first time that has occurred since 1998 when they went on to suffer a worst run of five defeats in a row.

For the All Blacks to lose three matches on the bounce is almost unheard of. To lose four, though?

Saturday’s Rugby Championship matches on Sky Sports
4pm – South Africa vs New Zealand (4.05pm kick-off, Sky Sports Action).

8pm – Argentina vs Australia (8.10pm kick-off, Sky Sports Action).

Well, it would not be difficult to imagine head coach Ian Foster and captain Sam Cane finding themselves being hauled before a parliamentary inquiry in a nation which lives and breathes rugby should the Springboks inflict another defeat on them this weekend.

“We know there’s a lot of pressure on, and we’re feeling that,” Foster said ahead of this weekend’s clash in Johannesburg, which is live on Sky Sports. “But our job is to look at our performance and how we can grow it.

“I understand the frustration, but that doesn’t change what we have to do here. There’s no point sulking about it for too long.”

Foster, who succeeded Steve Hansen as head coach following the 2019 Rugby World Cup, has borne the brunt of the criticism from both fans and the media, with the country’s largest-selling newspaper, the New Zealand Herald, calling on him to go in an article in which he was described as: “a decent man who is out of his depth in a brutal business.”

The 57-year-old was already facing calls to be axed after July’s 2-1 home series defeat to Ireland in which they were outplayed and outclassed with some scintillating displays from Andy Farrell’s team in their first home series loss for 27 years and the first Irish series win in New Zealand.

He has, however, found support from former All Blacks players, including 2015 Rugby World Cup winner Julian Savea, who worked with Foster while he was serving as an assistant coach to Hansen in that tournament.

“In a country where mental health is a big issue – where 72 per cent of suicides are men and a high number of depression amongst men, you would think people would be a bit kinder and think about their words before they make remarks on someone’s integrity, appearance and character, especially when they don’t know them on a personal level,” Savea posted on his Twitter account.

“I’m ashamed that this is how a human is treated and dragged in the media here in NZ.”

Sean Fitzpatrick, another All Blacks great, urged for cool heads to prevail too, even with the next Rugby World Cup just over a year away.

“Have they got a team that is a capable of winning the World Cup? From what we’ve seen in the last two weeks, you would doubt that,” Fitzpatrick told Sky Sports following the third-Test defeat against Ireland.

“But the All Blacks don’t turn from being a world-class team to a not world-class team overnight.”

For their part, the New Zealand players acknowledge results and performance have fallen below the standards they expect of themselves, never mind what anyone else thinks.

Richie Mo’unga, who returns to the starting XV at fly-half for Saturday’s match against the reigning world champions as one of four changes by Foster, is adamant they are shutting out all of the criticism from back home too.

“They care about our team and care about our results, but it’s also fair of us to not care about what they think because we have a role to do, a role to play, and hearing that isn’t going to help us at this moment,” Mo’unga said.

“I’m at a stage now if you’re not in our squad, I don’t really care what you think, with all respect. We’re trying our best, and we know it’s not good enough for All Blacks standards.”

Elsewhere, Australia are seeking to make it back-to-back wins against Argentina in this year’s Rugby Championship yet wary they will face a backlash from the Pumas, who are now coached by former Wallabies boss Michael Cheika.

Australia fought back from 19-10 down at half-time to triumph 41-26 in their win over Argentina last week despite being without captain Michael Hooper and losing fly-half Quade Cooper to an Achilles injury which will keep him out long-term.

Nevertheless, scrum-half Nic White is prepared for the Pumas to throw everything at them in their next meeting on Saturday.

“Cheika will have them fired up,” White said. “The emotion will be there but we need to get back to the process of…how we want to play, what our identity is.”

Australia were forced into a late change after hooker Folau Fainga’a was ruled out of the contest in San Juan and replaced by Lachlan Lonergan, who will make his first Test start.

Fainga’a took a blow to the head in training and failed a concussion test on Friday.

Uncapped Billy Pollard, 20, will take Lonergan’s place on the bench and could make his international debut having played only eight Super Rugby games for the ACT Brumbies.

How to watch the 2022 Rugby Championship
Sky Sports will again be bringing you live coverage of both of Saturday’s matches in the Rugby Championship, starting with the Springboks against the All Blacks from Emirates Airlines Park in Johannesburg on Sky Sports Action from 4pm.

Window owner Joe Tsai supports the team amid the commercial demands of Kevin Durant
Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai expressed his support Monday night for the front office and coaching staff after Kevin Durant asked Tsai to choose between him, the general manager and coach.

ESPN sources confirmed that Tsai and Durant recently met in London, where Durant reiterated his desire to trade and suggested the franchise needed to choose between him and coach Steve Nash and general manager Sean Marks.

Durant initially requested a deal on June 30 and did not back down from that request. At 33, Durant has four years and $198 million left on his contract, which means Brooklyn can be patient waiting for teams to see the kind of payoff he thinks will eventually turn up for a star player who hits the market.Change at his best.

The meeting between Durant and Tsai was first reported by The Athletic, who also noted that it happened on the one-year anniversary of Durant signing his extension.

Durant, along with Kyrie Irving and Deandre Jordan, joined the Nets in the summer of 2019 after helping Marks and then coach Kenny Atkinson lift the franchise from stagnation to a surprising berth for the post-season.

Since then, nothing has gone the way the Nets had planned.

Durant sat out the 2019 season while recovering from a torn Achilles, Jordan was traded, Nash was hired to replace Atkinson, James Harden came and went, Ben Simmons had yet to make his debut. Irving opted to withdraw from the final year of his off-season contract with the team, but he did not receive an extension. He played in 29 games last season after choosing not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Irving had created a list of teams he’d like the Nets to consider working on a signing and trading deal if they couldn’t agree terms for him to stay in Brooklyn, but the Los Angeles Lakers were the only team where he became known to be interested, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Irving is now no longer eligible for a signing and trading deal. The Nets can still trade it as an expiring contract, but Irving won’t have an official say in a potential landing site.

He has until June 30 next year to negotiate an extension with the Nets before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
