English football legend David Beckham asked Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United (MU). The former Red Devils player even hopes that CR7 is willing to extend his contract at Old Trafford.
Beckham assesses many players have the potential to leave Manchester United at the end of this season. This is because the club, managed by interim manager Ralf Rangnick, has fallen to sixth in the standings and has failed to win a single trophy.
The Red Devils also just suffered a humiliating defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, last weekend. Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends conceded four goals without reply which made them certain to fail to step into the Champions League next season.
Citing Metro reports, Man Utd’s penultimate match in the Premier League this season is only to maintain sixth position in the final standings and as qualification to the Europa League.
Manchester United actually still has hope to rise next season. The club that once triumphed under the care of Sir Alex Ferguson will be handled by a cold-handed manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutch tactician is also ready to make major changes in order to lift the performance of the MU squad.
Unfortunately, the arrival of Ten Hag makes the future of a number of players increasingly uncertain. Cristiano Ronaldo did not escape the rumors of a move because his style of play was claimed to be incompatible with Erik ten Hag.
However, Ronaldo still has one year remaining on his contract with Manchester United. David Beckham also hopes that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will stay at Old Trafford this season.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in the last 15 years with Leo (Messi). Seeing him stay – hopefully he stays – at United is important for the fans. It is (also) important for him. We all know how much Man United means to us. (Ronaldo),” the legend told Sky Sports, as reported by Metro.
“He’s still giving his best, (he) is scoring goals. That’s what Cristiano did. Even for someone his age, doing something like he is doing right now is absolutely incredible. Hopefully that continues and hopefully he stays (at United) for another year. or two more years, “concluded Beckham.
Cristiano Ronaldo has not yet decided on the continuation of his career with Manchester United. The Portuguese superstar will reportedly hold discussions with Sir Alex Ferguson regarding his future at Old Trafford.
For information, Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson do live close together in Manchester. They also often visit each other throughout this season. Sir Alex Ferguson is also said to have played a big role behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to the Red Devils last summer.
Unfortunately, CR7’s situation at MU did not go according to plan. The 37-year-old footballer failed to lift MU’s achievements. Despite having contributed many goals in the Premier League, the performance of the Red Devils continued to decline, until they were thrown to the order of six in the standings.
Reports claim Sir Alex Ferguson wants Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford for at least one more season. The Red Devils also have the option to extend Ronaldo’s stay by a year.
However, the arrival of Erik ten Hag could be a barrier for Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United. US reports last month said Ronaldo was ready to leave if his services were not needed by the new coach.
On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo has also begun to be linked with a move to Real Madrid. The club, which is based at the Santiago Bernabeu, seems interested in a reunion with the Portugal international.
A Mirror report last week claimed that key Real Madrid figures wanted to send Ronaldo back to Spain because the player is believed to be able to guarantee goals for Los Blancos in La Liga.
Ronaldo is indeed one of the players with the best performance at MU. Even though he is 37 years old, the former Juventus player has scored 24 goals from a total of 37 matches in various competitions with his club.
As for Real Madrid, it is predicted that they will need to spend enough if they want to land the goalscoring machine at the Bernabeu. The reason is that Ronaldo is still under contract at Manchester United until June 2023, with the option of a one-year extension. Los Blancos also have to be ready with CR7’s relatively large salary demands.
