THE RUSH will be back tomorrow. Until then, stay safe and don’t forget to check out our previous episodes here.

Seattle Storm star Sue Bird played her final WNBA regular season home game in front of a record crowd and it was an event to remember, Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu recorded her 200th assist on the season to set yet another WNBA record, and Collin Morikawa’s golf clubs were the latest victims of an air travel nightmare.

Video Transcript
SUE BIRD: Right now, I just want to say from the bottom of my heart how thankful I am not only for today, and all of you showing up and supporting us, but for 21 years.

[CHEERING]

JARED QUAY: Sue Bird played her last regular season game in Seattle on Sunday against the Las Vegas Aces. And to say she went out with a bang is an understatement. A franchise record 18,000-plus fans showed up to Climate Pledge Arena to toast one of the icons of basketball. And they were raring to go before the ball even tipped. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell even declared it Sue Bird Day.

And what else would you expect for one of the best players of all time who spent her entire pro career with the Seattle Storm? The woman has won four WNBA titles in three different decades. Which should be impossible, but apparently is not. Undoubtedly, the best moment came during the first quarter when Bird was about to inbound the ball.

– Sue gets a flower from a fan and says, you know what? I’m gonna have to give that back, because I got a game to play.

JARED QUAY: Bird finished her last regular season home game with 9 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Storm lost the game. But postgame, Bird made sure to remind the crowd that this is not quite over yet.

SUE BIRD: I don’t really have that Mamba out moment, but I just want to say I love you, thank you so much, and I’ll see you in the playoffs.

[CHEERING]

JARED QUAY: From saying goodbye to one of the greats to looking ahead to the stars of tomorrow– scratch that, because Sabrina Ionescu is a star right now. The 24-year-old Liberty star set another record over the weekend.

– That’s crazy.

JARED QUAY: In the first minute against the Phoenix Mercury, Ionescu recorded her 200th assist on the season with a pass leading to a Crystal Dangerfield 3. With that 200th assist, Sabrina became the first player ever to record 500 points, 200 rebounds, and 200 assists in a season. Might I remind you that Ionescu is only 24 years old. So every record in the book should be worried about getting broken.

Collin Morikawa is known for winning PGA championships, dropping trophies, and now having his golf clubs fall out of the airport luggage cart.

– Say what now?

JARED QUAY: Collin tweeted out a photo of his poor clubs lying in the middle of a tarmac while he was seated inside the plane. And no one was around to rescue them.

– Good god, man.

JARED QUAY: Don’t worry, because it ended well. Collin tweeted out another photo of reuniting with the fallen clubs. See it’s a good story Thought it was going to end bad.

– That’s a relief.

JARED QUAY: I have so many questions though. Collin earned $2 million just by winning the Open Championship last year, so maybe he should be flying private. Then again, that’s terrible for the environment. And he’s a good dude, so I mean it tracks.

– What a nice guy.

JARED QUAY: Can’t you carry your golf clubs on a commercial flight? I mean, everybody knows checked bags almost never get to the destination intended. So why don’t you just carry them on? And better yet than that, why don’t you FedEx them? You can get a sponsorship with like UPS, FedEx, or even some new, upcoming– Amazon Prime, how about that?

Why don’t you just buy new clubs? I mean, this is why I go on a rant about how I don’t think golf’s great, because you can just go into Dick’s Sporting Goods be like, yo, let me get those clubs in my height, and go out there, and win an open, because you’re rich and you put a lot of time into it.
